Christopher Hofer

The Very Rev. Christopher D. Hofer has been the Rector of the Church of St. Jude, Wantagh, NY, since July 2004. During his tenure, St. Jude’s attendance has nearly tripled and Sunday School enrollment has risen from 15 to 90. Due to its growth in membership, programs and outreach, St. Jude’s will be featured in an upcoming Episcopal Church documentary project, “Transforming Churches, Changing the World” (Spring, 2011).

Fr. Christopher utilizes the experiences from St. Jude’s and assists Diocesan Vestries through leading retreats on evangelism, church growth and mission development. Locally, he is the President of the Wantagh Clergy Council. Additionally, he is active in Diocesan affairs serving as Secretary of Convention (and subsequently serving on Diocesan Council and Departments of Council as an ex officio member), Dean of the South Nassau Deanery, SHE-CAP and nationally certified anti-racism instructor, and Deputy to the General Convention.

Prior to coming to Long Island, Fr. Christopher was Associate Missioner with the Episcopal West Side Shared Ministry in Cleveland, Ohio, where he served on the Board of Trustees for the Episcopal Community Services Foundation and Community Corners. Before attending the General Theological Seminary, Fr. Christopher had a career in marketing and communications, serving as Marketing Director for United Ways in Akron and Canton, Ohio. He graduated summa cum laude, Communication Studies, from Walsh University, North Canton, Ohio.

Fr. Christopher lives in Wantagh with his partner of nearly 17 years, Kerry Brady who is an Accounting Specialist in the Controller’s Office at the Episcopal Church Center, New York, New York. They are the proud owner of a cat, Assumpta. Hobbies include world travel, cooking, entertaining and running.
