Lego My Bible

Let's have some fun as we share Bible stories with children.

Summertime is here, and it feels so good.

Vacations, BBQs, swimming pools. Empty pews, VBS, a break from Sunday Schools.

But just because it's summer doesn't mean we stop talking and teaching about God and our faith. We just need to be creative.

I saw a great example on the Facebook stream of a friend. He was hosting an afternoon for elementary-age children called Lego My Bible. Basically the kids talked about one of the stories of the Bible and then took to Legos to tell the story. They offered creative takes on the story from the Gospel of Mark about the paralytic man whose was healed by Jesus after friends lowered the disabled man through a roof.

I suspect the kids will remember this story about Jesus long after memories of scripture-based coloring pages have faded. The supply list is short: a tub of Legos (and honestly, collect them from parishioners--nine out of town households have a stash of Legos somewhere). The planning is pretty easy: pick one of the hundreds of compelling stories in the Bible. And the time commitment is limited-- for children and adults, about two hours.

The kids heard the story, interpreted it through Legos, then shared with the group their creations. There are lots of ways to build God's church. This church is using Legos.
