Church in the Round

Editor's Note: Church in the Round has since been renamed George: Center for Community. In fall 2011 St. Andrew’s in Seattle, WA began the visioning process for a new mission center in the heart of Lake City. Entrusted with the keys to the former St. George’s Church, St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church of Green Lake was called by Bishop Greg Rickel to launch a new mission founded on the long history of outreach that St George’s has maintained throughout the years in feeding the hungry, serving the poor, and loving the marginalized. He also hopes that the new mission engages young adults in its leadership. Church in the Round is the working title for this new effort. St. George’s Chapel was literally and architecturally a church in the round. The values represented by this name will be at the core of this new effort. A design team consisting of 20 members from St. Andrew’s, the Lake City community and the wider diocese began by surveying the hopes and dreams of the local Lake City neighborhood. The design team met on Monday evenings in October and November 2011 to worship, listen, and dream together. In listening to our neighbors and to the Holy Spirit, it is our intent that a dream for the neighborhood will emerge. Once discerned and named, we hope to start building and creating this new center of outreach and ministry in the new year. Below you will find three documents: 1. A design process for Church in the Round 2. The interview questions used to survey the neighborhood 3.
