Walking Away for a While

Today I walked out of my office and won’t return until May 1. I am leaving on my first sabbatical in 31 years of priesthood. It will be an opportunity to travel to Africa and Europe and to spend a month in Chicago all pursuing music as an important expression of faith.

My church will be exploring the same theme. They will have Dent Davidson, Missioner for Arts and Liturgy for the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago, in residency this month working with our choir and offering several workshops. He will preach at a Eucharist, run two choir rehearsals, and engage our diocese with an exploration of several new hymnal resources.

I will travel to Uganda and visit our sister church there and meet with church musicians in that African nation. I will also spend a week at the Taize monastery.
